To ensure that reported data are reliable, valid, complete and comparable, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) require that Medicare Part C and D organizations undergo an independent data validation (DV) audit.

CMS sets forth strict criteria for DV vendor selection which include: previous experience, successful completion of similar projects, staff and management credentials, facility requirements and resource availability.
